Our Temple Tour accommodations are located in the Auroville Intentional Community, home of the famous Matrimandir.

Located near Pondicherry and oceanside is the special community of Auroville, a manifestation of the vision of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, two powerful spiritual figureheads bridging ancient India with the modern world.

Auroville was birthed by The Mother as the first intentional community dedicated to transformation of consciousness combined with sustainable living and cultural social spiritual needs of humanity. 

Residents of Auroville come from around the world from all walks of life, dedicated to the vision of this model spiritual movement and its goal for uniting and harmonizing humanity into higher conscious living. 

Located in southern India and in the state of Pondicherry, along the Coromandel Coast, this special community proudly presents its own township with roughly 5000 population and a city government that manages a unity fund for operating the town hall funding a variety of projects and activities from construction of houses to maintenance of forests and farms to educational, cultural and publication activities.

At the center of the town is the oval Peace Area where the Matrimandir, the soul of Auroville, is located. Matrimandir is a large structure that is designed with 12 petals and 12 gardens near a banyan tree that is considered the geographical center of Auroville. Near this majestic iconic structure is the amphitheater which contains the soil of 121 nations and 23 Indian states. A large lake surrounds the Matrimandir and amphitheater creating a calm and serene environment while providing water to the city. 

The heart of the Matrimandir contains an inner chamber that is completely white, with marble walls and plush white carpeting. In the center of this chamber rests a large, pure crystal-glass globe which suffuses a ray of electronically guided sunlight that falls on it through the apex of the golden sphere of Matrimandir. The purpose of this special space designed by The Mother is to represent “the symbol of future realizations”. The Mother further states that it is meant to be a place of meditation and silence attempting to find one’s consciousness.
