DAY 3
Ganesha Temple

In the heart of Pondicherry we find the Arulmigu Manakula Vinyagar Temple that offers the presence of Ganesha to devotees from around the world.
The diety representing Ganesha and presiding in this temple is said to remove all obstacles in one’s life and fulfill the dreams and wishes for those who worship him with full devotion.
The history of this temple includes a tale of a French invasion that began their rule of Pondicherry and built their fort next to this temple in 1688.
The French decided that if they removed the temple from its current position then could strengthen their fort. Upon that decision they decided to throw the Ganesha idol into the ocean to rid its presence and clear the temple to better serve their needs. However, much to their surprise the idol of Ganesha continued to reappear and refused to drift away. After observing its persistency to stay near its temple the French people gave up and decided to become followers of this magnificent deity.
